MARCUS APPELBERG

Visual artist. Born 1990 in Karlstad, Sweden.

Marcus Appelberg (b. 1990, Karlstad, Sweden) is an artist and curator based in Mölndal. Appelbergs main focus is painting, where an interest for draperies and fashion in relation to identity and the body has been a focus for the last years. Draperies and folds that acts like a border between garment and flesh and as a means of changing the perception of self and body.

The series Prêt-à-porter takes inspiration from fashion images and he also looks at renaissance art for inspiration, creating paintings that focus on details, folds and drapes that fall over a body.

Appelberg has studied art in Gothenburg and holds a double master in fine art from UdK Berlin and Valand Academy in Gothenburg, as well as studying Curating at UdK Berlin. He works independently as a curator, consultant and art critic. His art is represented at several public collections around Sweden and he has exhibited in a variety of places, among them Galleri Flach, Galleri Hammarén, SKK/Konstnärshuset, Kulturcentrum Ronneby, Jönköpings läns museum, Museum EICAS, Lidköpings konsthall, Vandalorum and Udden Skulptur.
