OKTAWIAN BOHDZIEWICZ
Ceramist and visual artist. Born 1994 in Bialogard, Poland. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Through an interdisciplinary combination of digital creation and ceramic craft, Oktawian Bohdziewicz explores the relationship between the individual and the social body, how it can be experienced to live in an in-between state, and the human being’s complicated relationship with materiality.
Oktawian has photographed his everyday life and then distorted the images in the computer, layering images on top of each other until they resemble his experience of what it is like to live in this deeply dystopian, dysfunctional and complex society. By transferring the everyday photos to ceramics, a material that is both durable and fragile, he seeks a tension and absurdity between the beautiful and the terrifying. The process has become a way of making a mental experience into something solid and concrete, an object with a materiality that can be touched. Moreover it is a way of using art to represent something that is between the inner experience and the outer reality.
Bohdziewicz holds a Master of Fine Arts from HDK Valand, Academy of Design and Craft in Gothenburg.
