DIEGO DECONT JIMENEZ

Diego Decont Jimenez is a Mexican artist based in Arlöv.With a childlike sense of wonder and a primal curiosity, Diego Decont explores what might emerge when materials, forms and objects are brought together without a predetermined direction. His practice begins with a desire to break free from linear structures and fixed meanings, creating instead a space for play, experimentation and displacement. At its core is a simple yet open-ended question: What could it become?
The works evolve through encounters between materials and through a process in which joining, transformation and reconsideration are central. Porcelain, concrete, metal, paper pulp, ceramic fragments, wood, organic matter, discarded objects and animal remains are brought into new relationships. At times, they merge into a cohesive whole; at others, their contradictions remain visible. It is within this tension that the works take shape.
The process is guided by listening rather than by a predetermined idea. The qualities and expressive potential of the materials are allowed to direct the work, turning the act of making into a negotiation between hand, material and object. To twist, shape, alter, juxtapose, break apart, reconnect, pause and begin again become recurring gestures in an exploration without an obvious conclusion.
The finished objects can be understood as traces of these encounters and negotiations. Some belong to smaller series, while others emerge as autonomous figures. Together, they form a constellation—a gathering of fragments orbiting within the same field without being subsumed by a shared narrative.
Instead, a polyphonic dialogue emerges, allowing materials, forms and objects to retain their own voices. Meanings shift and are renegotiated; what initially appears unfamiliar may suddenly find a connection with something else. Here, logic, perception and meaning remain in constant motion.
Diego received his BA in ceramic art in 2024 from HDK-Valand in Gothenburg, Sweden.
