NINNA BERGER
Visual artist. Born 1980 in Svedala, Sweden. Lives and works in Malmö and in Stockholm.
Ninna Beger´s practice is material-based and she thinks of her works as collages — or as a form of visual poetry. Through craft-based processes, teh artist processes textiles, paper, and organic materials with chemistry, water, and pigments in an attempt to give form to the immaterial.
Her work is grounded in a humility toward the associative capacities of the senses and toward the ways materials relate to the body as a carrier of memory. In the process, materials act as mediators between the tactile and the perceptual — between what can be touched and what can only be sensed.
Ninna Berger is interested in the potential of materiality to open spaces for subjective interpretation. Through surfaces, textures, and layers of pigment, she explores how material qualities can evoke memories, atmospheres, and personal experiences in the viewer.
The artist is driven by a sense of wonder at the inherent expressiveness of materials and their ability to suggest something beyond the immediately visible.
Ninna Berger holds a MFA from Konstfack University College of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm.
