ANDERS SLETVOLD MOE

Visual artist born in 1978 in Steinkjer, Norway. Anders Sletvold Moe studied at Malmö School of Art 2001-2006. He lives and works in Oslo. The artist was awarded the 2024 Bærtling scholarship.

In his works, Anders Sletvold Moe examines painting’s relationship to its three-dimensional surroundings with minimalism as a guiding light. It can be about cutting or drilling directly into walls, or creating three-dimensional effects with the help of light, reflections and surfaces on a wall. He often bypasses the traditional canvas and intervenes directly in the room, with great awareness of – and often a wink to – the predecessors within the same tradition.

The series Square Sequence consists of a square shape that rotates 90 degrees over a series of four images: A, B, C and D. It is a rhythmic composition where the rotation of the same shape appears very differently depending on where the black and gray fields are located in the rotating sequence.

The artist has also worked with how the form relates to and is placed on the sheet of paper. Quadratic sequence is typical of how he relates to the serial and repetitive in his works.

The series’ four images are printed in an edition of 20 copies each. They have been produced in collaboration with Ateljé Larsen in Helsingborg, Sweden’s leading gravure workshop.
