CORINNE ERICSON
Visual artist. Born in 1987 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Corinne Ericson is educated at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm 2004-2009. She lives and works in Stockholm and Jämtland.
Ericson’s artistic practice has been strongly associated with the rooms she has established a place in, enabling writing, painting or as in the last 20 years: researching materials and techniques in sculpture or carrying out photographic projects. The choreography of walking and the symbolic value in psychological complications is a common theme, which, however, not visibly observable, drives the artist in an inner monologue.
The original sketches for the suite shown at the exhibition were drawn with sculpture wax as intuitively and visually association-free as possible. A kind of story initially shaped the directions of the path, with obstacles and hidden courses. The process and the visual expression towards more organic forms trying to formulate herself anew, with the intention of breaking past architectural and minimalist influences. In significantly different materials, techniques and scales, Based on the sketches, Ericson has processed ideas in fundamentally different materials, techniques and scales, where the focus has varied between lines and form surfaces.
Strategies are reliefs in wood; with them, the artist gave herself the opportunity to also work with colour.
