Visual artist. Born in 1988 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Lives and works in Malmö.
Emil Carlsiö works primarily with oil painting on canvas. Over the last years he has focused on a project regarding questions of perception, the value of symbols and different aspects of composition in the reading of an image. In his project Stateless Fragments, Carlsiö utilizes symbols of flags representing stateless nations in order to create patterns and stories without any clear narrative, where each painting then leads to the next.
The artist holds a BFA from Valand Academy and a MFA from Umeå Art Academy. After completing his studies in 2018, Carlsiö has lived and worked in Brussels and Berlin before settling in Malmö in 2021.
